That’s where stock imagery comes in. There are millions of photos on these websites (both free and paid for) that you can use to enhance your website’s experience. They are perfect for your service-based business if you are aiming to visually represent what you do, and even better for e-commerce sites looking to creating a particular feeling or atmosphere around your products.
In this article, I’ll be exploring some of my favourite FREE stock image websites that have helped me and my clients uplevel a website. Giving you the chance to turn your website from a DIY template to a custom design.
Why is it important
As standard, I like to provide all my clients with a curated collection of high-quality stock photos to best represent the business and overall brand.
It goes without saying that having great images on your website can make a massive difference. Images can allow you to break up a chunk of text to support easy reading as people navigate through your site. It is also important to consider that most people will be not read every single word on your website, but they still need to find what they are looking for.
Images can provide a way to associate relevant categories together and allow for viewers to recognise whether they are in the right place on a website. Potential customers will find this experience so much easier and you’ll get your message across in the most seamless way possible, which is a win-win.
Top FREE Stock photos websites
This has to be my number 1 favourite resource for the most beautiful pictures on the web. Unsplash has a range of free images submitted by talented photographers and creators which are phenomenal. There are a great collection of business, artistic and minimal photos which truly speak louder than words.
Being one of the first websites I discovered, Pexels.com is on a level with Unsplash in terms of the quality and range of photos they provided. I find that they have a wider range of creative images to choose from, which can be great if you are going for a website with strong and bold images. One of my favourite things about Pexels is their ‘discover by colours’ collection which is a fantastic place to find photos that align with your brand colours.
Nappy.co is a relatively new stock image website that recently had a fresh revamp. It’s a website dedicated to portraying “beautiful photos of black and brown people for free”. A wonderful place to go if your business is specific to people of colour and finding such images may be difficult on the mainstream websites – such as Unsplash and Pexels. It can also be a lovely way to add diversity to your site in an effort to be more inclusive towards your audience.
Burst is a Shopify developed stock image site particularly aimed towards small businesses and entrepreneurs. The website is easy to use with images pre-categorised, making it easier to find what you are looking for. They are more specifically targeted towards e-commerce stores, which can be seen in the ‘business ideas’ section which categories images based on the products you are selling.
StockSnap.io is another website I enjoy using frequently. They offer many different categories to explore helping you find the right photo for the job. You can find some great gems on this website, often images that are not commonly seen all over the web.
This one can often be overlooked, but Adobe Stock is an amazing resource for stock images to add that extra touch to your business website. Similarly to StockSnap, I find adobe can sometimes provide great gems and change up the collections of photos you have. What makes Adobe that little bit extra, si that they also provide a range of free videos and vector files for you to use on your website or other marketing tools.
Now you are one step closer to creating the website that truly represents your business. Having professional photos from these websites just makes things 10x easier and help you to build a brand you are proud of.
